Beach or City? Which is the best location to learn Spanish?

You love the vibes of a big city? Then immerse yourself into the urban life of a modern Caribbean metropolis. With a population of over 3 million inhabitants and a 500-year old history Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, is the cultural, political and economic center of the country. Find the historical face of the city in its colonial district, Zona Colonial, a UNESCO World Heri­tage Site since 1990. See its modern face when taking the METRO subway or the new cable-car running across the city or when visiting the Museum of Modern Art or one of the big Shopping Malls. Santo Domingo is located right on the Caribbean coast, the next beaches though are 45 to 60 minutes driving outside the city.

Our school is located in the University Zone, just across from the UASD Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, the largest university of the country and in fact, the oldest university of the Americas.

You love nature? Then come to Sosua on the Amber coast in the north of the Dominican Republic. Sosua is located only 10 min driving from the Inter­national Airport of Puerto Plata. The small coastal town, home to 12,000 inhabitants, is known for its beautiful beaches and water sports facilities. It’s the ideal starting point if you like to explore the country’s mountains, rivers, and waterfalls or if you just want to enjoy its beautiful beaches and water sports facilities.

Surfer’s paradise Cabarete, one of the top 10 kiteboarding spots in the world, is only 15 minutes by public transportation away. There are good conditions for windsurfing, kiteboarding, and surfing as well. Sosua is best known for its scuba diving. So if you like to learn Spanish and be active and want to experience another pace of life, then that’s the place.

When is the best time to travel to the Dominican Republic?

With an average temperature of 28 degrees Celsius (82 F) and water temperatures between 26 to 29 degrees, the Dominican Republic is a place you can visit all year round. Over 270 sunny days per year will booster your Vitamin D-depot. Hurricane season is mainly during the months of August to October. The south side of the island (Santo Domingo) tends to get the most rain during July and August while on the north coast (Sosua/Puerto Plata) rainy season is in December and January.

Though due to its tropical, but pleasant breezy island climate, short and heavy rain showers are common throughout the whole year. No wonder why the country is so lush and green!
