About us

About us: Since 1994, we at Instituto Intercultural del Caribe (IIC) offer Spanish language courses in the Dominican Republic. We are dedicated to teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language and to providing intercultural understanding through language courses, immersion trainings and study abroad programs.

Besides Spanish, we also provide German and English classes at our institute to Dominican and Haitian students with the goal of creating better future opportunities for themselves and their communities.

The School

The Institute is in Sosua near Cabarete/ Puerto Plata. The small beach town on the north coast of the Dominican Republic offers a broad variety of leisure activities, as does near-by surfer mekka Cabarete. The International Airport of Puerto Plata (POP) is only 15 minutes driving away. Here, you can live the Caribbean lifestyle and easily immerse in the local culture.

The Classes

Classes start every week all year round, as well during the summer and over the Christmas season.

You can sign up for class from a wide selection of Spanish courses, matching your interest and Spanish language level (beginner to advanced).

The Institute offers on-site group courses and tailor-made private classes as well as Online Courses with highly qualified and experienced teachers.

IIC’s intensive Spanish courses with 20 to 30 hours per week are designed to meet the requirements for the German “Bildungsurlaub” (educational leave for professionals) and to grant university credits: IIC has a School of Record relationship with Seton Hill University in Pennsylvania (USA) for students enrolled in IIC Spanish programs: https://www.setonhill.edu/academics/undergraduate-programs/spanish-ba/

Preparation courses for the DELE exams, specialized Business Spanish programs as well as faculty-led student group programs are available. Special courses combine Spanish language classes with fun activities like scuba diving, windsurfing, kiteboarding, and of course Merengue and Bachata dance classes, the typical Latin dances of the Dominican Republic.

Our Social Program

Activities and explorer tours to meet country and people are an important part of IIC’s social program. The Student Facilitator and IIC Team on site also organize fun activities at the school and little trips into town together with all students. It’s a great way to get to know each other.

Learn Spanish in a picture-perfect Caribbean setting, experience Dominican culture and tradition, and meet new friends among people from around the world.
