A Quick Overview: How Our Spanish Courses Work
From course levels to schedules and start dates, here’s what you need to know about learning Spanish at IIC in Sosúa.
📍 Location
Our On-site Spanish Courses take place at our school in Sosúa.
We also offer Online Spanish Classes.
📚 Language Levels
We follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and offer courses across four broad levels:
Beginner – starting from scratch, with no previous Spanish
Elementary (A1/A2) – can communicate in simple, familiar everyday situations
Intermediate (B1/B2) – can communicate independently in a wide range of everyday and social situations
Advanced (C1/C2) – can communicate fluently, accurately and effectively, including on complex topics
🕘 How the Day Is Structured
Our courses generally run on a morning and afternoon schedule from Monday to Friday.
Group courses normally take place in the morning, from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm, including a 30-minute break. This is more than just a break from class: students come together in our community area and on the terrace to relax, chat and share experiences.
Private tuition and intensive group courses are usually scheduled in the afternoon, between 1:30 pm and 5:00 pm. Depending on the number and combination of language levels running at a given time, courses may also be scheduled on the opposite timetable. The final timetable is determined by IIC and may vary depending on the courses and language levels running at the time.
If only 1 or 2 students are enrolled at a particular group level, the student(s) will be taught by one teacher in a private or semi-private setting, with the total number of lesson hours reduced by 50%. In this case, classes may follow a four-day morning schedule with Friday off or may change to an afternoon schedule with 2 hours per day from Monday to Friday.
From 5:00–8:00 pm, our school also hosts local students attending English and German classes. This creates another natural opportunity to meet people from the community, practise your Spanish and experience Dominican life beyond the classroom.
📅 Start Any Monday – All Year Round
Our Spanish courses are available all year round, at all levels, including during the summer and Christmas season.
Both group courses and private tuition start every Monday. If Monday is a public holiday, your course starts on Tuesday instead.
