What to Expect

Our Dominican Cooking sessions are designed to introduce you to the flavors and recipes that make Dominican cuisine so special.

Under the guidance of our staff, you’ll learn to prepare traditional dishes such as (examples):

  • Arepita de Yuca: Crispy fritters that are loved by Dominicans as a snack, appetizer, or side dish for any meal.
  • Mangú: A popular breakfast dish made from mashed plantains, often served with fried cheese, eggs, and salami.
  • Moro de Guandules: A savory mix of rice and pigeon peas, seasoned with local herbs and spices.
  • Sancocho: A stew made with a variety of meats and vegetables, perfect for sharing with friends and family.

The activity includes hands-on instruction in the use of authentic ingredients like plantains, yucca, a variety of local spices, and of typical kitchen utensils.

You will cook at our school’s kitchen in Sosua.

Each cooking class takes about 2 hours. It is conducted in Spanish.
