Pirates in Santo Domingo

Our students at IIC in Santo Domingo had lots of fun posing as “Pirates of the Caribbean”. It was part of a Social Media mini-series the school launched on Facebook and Instagram about famous movies filmed in the Dominican Republic.

Movie Filming is Big in the Dominican Republic

Due to its beautiful beaches, for years the Dominican Republic has not only been an attractive destination for vacationing but also for filming movies, series, documentaries and video clips.

Last year 2021 alone, according to the Dominican Republic Film Commission (DGCINE), the country hosted 49 international film projects.

In theaters right now: “The Lost City” with Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum, and “Shotgun Wedding”, an action comedy with Jennifer Lopez and Lenny Kravitz which was entirely filmed in the Dominican Republic.

Fast & Furious loves the island

Actor Vin Diesel has been a regular guest and great lover of the Dominican Republic for years. Parts of his movies Fast & Furious 3.5, 4 and 7 have been filmed in different locations on the island, amongst them Zona Colonial in the capital Santo Domingo and the beaches of Monte Christi. In March 2021 the actor took the future of movie-making in the Dominican Republic to a new level and signed an agreement with President Luis Abinader to develop a film studio there. It will be located on Bergantin beach near Puerto Plata. The project is being developed by Vin Diesel and his company, One Race Films which has also been directing the Fast & Furious-movies.
