From September 16 to 20, 2026, Cabarete on the north coast of the Dominican Republic will once again become the international capital of ocean sports as it hosts the 21st edition of Master of the Ocean—the world’s only competition that crowns the best all-around ocean athlete.
Since its beginnings in 2003, Master of the Ocean has grown into one of the Caribbean’s most iconic sporting events, attracting elite athletes, water sports enthusiasts, and thousands of spectators from around the globe. Set against the stunning backdrop of Cabarete’s world-famous beaches, the event showcases the versatility, endurance, and adaptability required to master the sea in all its conditions.
Master of the Ocean: The World’s Only Five-Discipline Water Sports Championship
Master of the Ocean is unlike any other competition. Instead of focusing on a single sport, athletes must demonstrate their skills across five ocean disciplines:
- Surfing
- Kitesurfing
- Windsurfing
- Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP)
- Wingfoiling
To become the overall champion, competitors and teams need to master changing wind, waves, and weather conditions while proving themselves to be complete watermen and waterwomen. It is this unique format that has earned Master of the Ocean international recognition as one of the world’s most demanding and exciting ocean sports events.
